FOUR TO SCORE
by Janet Evanovich
It isn't easy to define the genre of these adventures of gutsy Stephanie
Plum, bounty hunter. She works for her cousin Vinnie (family
slapstick). She is absolutely not falling for sexy vice cop Morelli
(police procedural). She occasionally summons help from the
mysterious, powerful Ranger (adventure). The flip side is Stephanie's
Sunday dinners with her folks, when her Mom moans, "You couldn't
get a nice job in a beauty salon? They're looking for a shampoo girl."

Pros:  Fast paced, high suspense, brilliant comedy. Cons: Warning:

Guide Review - Stephanie is hot on the trail of waitress Maxine
Nowicki, whose criminal record consists of stealing her boyfriend's
car. Maxine is nowhere to be found but leads her boyfriend on a
vengeful treasure hunt, which Stephanie joins. Somebody is rolling in
new money, but Stephanie isn't sure who or how. When people who
have seen Maxine lately begin to die, it's hard to tell the saints from
the sinners. Throw in some trashings, firebombings, a night at a
casino and a night with Morelli. In a gossipy neighborhood where
everybody is related, this makes for lively conversation with
Stephanie's folks over Sunday's pot-roast. Stephanie doesn't stay
long for dinner; somebody is trying to kill her and anyone who
shelters her. Suspenseful right to the end, and shot through with
hilarity, this book (and the series) is a great read.
